Welcome to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church,
Salisbury’s downtown church!
We’re glad to have you visit!
Please join us for worship on Sundays. Free parking is available on the street and in municipal lots. Enter through the tower on Church Street, which parallels U.S. Route 50. Click here for more parking information.
Our church was built in 1887 and is a magnificent example of Italian Romanesque construction, with intricate brickwork and more than 50 stained glass windows. On Sundays our average Sunday attendance is around 150.
Our spiritual leaders are Father David Michaud, Rector, and Rev. Adele Hatfield, Assistant Rector: they are the clergy persons who serve the parish. They lead our worship and look forward with other parishioners in greeting you when you come to worship.
Our worship connects God’s people in the sacred space of the church with some of the world’s most ancient and beautiful Christian liturgies, prayers and music that draw us to the divine. We believe that everyone is made in the image of God and so we seek to know and to share the love of Christ by welcoming all to worship in a loving, non-judgmental way as the beloved community of Jesus.
During the year, we usually have three services (two services in the summer at 8am and 10am). Here’s what to expect:
- 7:45amHoly Eucharist Rite I – this is typically a quiet, said service, with instrumental organ music. It tends to be our most traditional service.
- 9:00am Holy Eucharist Rite II – we tend to have more young families attend this service, and people who like the combination of contemporary music with guitar accompaniment along with traditional hymns sung with the organ. There is a staffed nursery available at this service for infants to 5 year olds.
- 11:00amSung Holy Eucharist Rite II—St. Peter’s Choir leads more traditional music at this service, which includes organ music, chanting and incense, a great high church worship experience. This is the most formal of our worship services. There is a staffed nursery available at this service for infants to 5 year olds.
After each service we have fellowship with one another at our coffee hour in the parlor and you are invited to join us for refreshments and conversations, and to learn more about the church. Check the parish calendar for Sunday and weekday events.
St. Peter’s has an active children’s and youth program, with Sunday School on Sunday mornings at 10:15am for pre-K through grade 5, and St. Peter’s Youth Group for middle and high school students which meets weekly Sunday afternoons at 4pm. In addition we have many family friendly activities throughout the year. While there is no Sunday School in the summer months, we do have a Vacation Bible School. See our Children & Youth page for more information.
