St. Peter's Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a group of dedicated volunteers whose ministry is the care for the altar, vestments, vessels, candles and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services and clean up afterwards. Members also decorate the church with flowers, candles and other ornaments that provide beauty and reverence to the space.
Sharing the Meaning:
The Christian faith includes many symbols and traditions as a way of recalling our rich history and expressing our beliefs. Many of these symbols are present in the church space and in the liturgy. The Altar Guild would like to share a bit of the meaning behind some the symbols and other items present in the sanctuary to help you deepen your worship experience.
Red Altar Linens:
The color red for the frontals altar linen recalls the tongues of fire or flames of the Holy Spirit that appeared and rested upon each of the apostles. (Acts 2:1-3). The frontal linen used at St. Peter's has at its center the image of a white dove which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Notice that the dove is pointing downward into a flame-like image.
The red altar linen will continue to be used through the entire season of Pentecost.
