Serving at the Altar at St. Peter's
What are the Altar Server Positions?
Children and Youth at St. Peter's are encouraged to participate in the liturgical life of the church by participating as Altar Servers in our worship services.
- Torchbearer – Elementary School 1st- through 5th grade;
- Crucifer – Middle School 6th through 8th grade;
- Acolyte – High School 9th through 12th grade and have been confirmed or will be taking confirmation classes soon.
The Crucifer and Acolyte positions may also be filled by adults.
Training: How to Know What to Do
St. Peter's provides training and practice for all who are interested in serving at the altar. We do a general training in September.

What is a Customary?
A customary is a description of the liturgical responsibilities of a lay or clergy person involved in a worship service -- what it is "customary" for that person to do in that role. Click below for the customary of each different altar server position.
