READ ABOUT THE PROJECT TO REMOVE THE ORGAN PIPES FROM THE CHURCH

The Vestry voted October 16, 2024 to approve the proposal from Smith and Gilbert to remove the Moeller pipe organ.  This decision was announced during worship services Sunday, October 20 and a rendering of a photo showing how the sanctuary would look without the pipes was presented to the congregation.

Since we no longer have a functioning pipe organ, all pipes would be removed including the visible pipes on north and south sides of sanctuary and behind the altar triptych. This would return the look of the altar area to the way it was for the first 100 years of its existence.

It would also allow us to reclaim the passageway behind the altar that goes from sacristy to broadcast room and altar guild storage area.  In addition it would allow us to return the cathedra (Bishop’s chair) to its correct position on the north wall.

The Walker digital organ meets the parish music needs admirably, and is much more tonally diverse than the Moeller ever was.  It is also extremely reliable, requires little maintenance, and is easy to update inexpensively.  In exchange, Smith and Gilbert will take the Moeller and repurpose the parts for another site.  Work removing the pipes is scheduled in the church for the week of November 18.

"Messiah" 2023 is a huge success!

Despite the pouring rain, St. Peter's was packed for the 2023 Messiah All-Sing on December 17, 2023, with a 15-piece orchestra and professional soloists Miranda Bruger, soprano; Hunter Shaner, Countertenor; John Wesley Wright, tenor; and Carl DuPont, Bass Baritone. The audience was the choir, and having prepared with two rehearsals in the previous weeks, they did a splendid job!
